We've played a bunch of great shows this summer, and usually I will take some pics so I can remember who I was hanging out with. (And sometimes try to forget.) Anyways - here are some pics from the last couple weeks - from Shambhala and on the road with JOTS.

Stand Back
There's a great legend behind this song. Apparently Nicks was driving along when 'Little Red Corvette' came on the radio. She started humming along to the synth lines and the melody for 'Stand Back' developed from that. So she called Prince to tell him the story and ask him to play synthesizers on the album recording. When Prince showed up to record, he rolled into the studio without saying a word to anyone, walked over to the synths, laid down the tracks then, says Nicks, "he just got up and left as if the whole thing happened in a dream."

ELI ESCOBAR - GLASS HOUSE
This new tune from Eli Escobar on Plant Music is so awesome. It's like a deep house electro warehouse jam - and it sounds like it could have been made in any of the last three decades. One of my faves of the year so far. Please support good music and buy the 12" here or the mp3 here.
Plus - they did an awesome video for it as well:
The GlamoUrous Life
Two of my favorite dudes are DJ Eleven & Dj Ayres of the Rub. The Glamorous Life mixes have been some of my favorites to come out from the under the Rub, and perfect summertime soundtracks, which is all I care about right now. The just posted the new mix as a free download, for all the lucky people on the internet. Ok everybody, time to get glamorous:

GSD mix
Our good homey, and all around handsome dude, Dan Murray aka GSD*, just did a mix for Shambhala that I'm really diggin. Frankly, I'm shocked that he could pull himself away from staring at his own reflection long enough to make this, but he did, and it's worth a listen. Here's what he says about it:
"New mix!! I have the genre labeled as "Pop Tinged Electro Boogie Anthems & What Not"...
that should give you an idea of what it's all about.
Old jems from about '81-'84, with an obligitory "Neighbour break" thrown in.
All the edits i did specially for this mix.
Mix yourself up an adult beverage and enjoy!
GSD."
Cop it. It's nice.

*GSD stands for "Glow Stick Dan". What an idiot.

Ali B
Ali B is one of our favorite guys and djs out there. He's been holding it down at Fabric nightclub in London since it opened it's doors almost 10 years ago. He also does a night in London called F*cking in Paradise at Paradise Bar. We got to play there while in London and if is one of the funnest nights anywhere, soul/funk/classics anything goes. It's the jam of jams. Ali also made a great mix to represent the night (check the tracklist below) and it's perfect for a summertime gathering or BBQ or something of that nature. He's playing with us tonight at Hifi so come down and check it out if you like fun. Such a result!

Summer Soul
For me summertime is when you listen to soul music man.
This has been a really good year for that kind of thing.
Two of my favorite records are from Mayer Hawthorne & Maxwell. Ivory & Ebony.
Both are about heartbreak & sadness, as good rhythm & blues should be, unless it's about about love & happiness.
Mayer Hawthorne - Just Aint Gonna Work Out
Maxwell - Cold
Please buy these records and support the artists. So we can have more soul for our summers.
FRACTAL FUNK JAM
Shambhala was so amazing this year. I have a bunch of pics to follow. But thanks to everybody who jammed with us in the Forest on Sunday. Here is some video shot by our homie K-Tel shot this year at the Fractal Funk Jam. See you all next year.

SHAMBHALA MIX
We just got back from our favorite festival on the planet: Shambhala. This event never ceases to amaze. It's like the most amazing social experiment in the country. The the Anti-rave rave. It's a love in and a raging kegger. It really has to be seen to be believed. We made a mix for the festival with Wax Romeo and Smoke & Mirrors who also played the festival. Thanks to all the sweet folks we hung out with out there. And all the great djs who killed it. See you next year, and till then enjoy the mix.
