What a week

Wow - this week at the Hifi there are three awesome shows, starting off tonight with the new disco sounds of In Flagranti:

Here's a great mix they did this summer for the Big Chill Festival:
IN FLAGRANTI - BIG CHILL MIX

Tomorrow night we have LA's best DJ Fashen coming through, and he's one of our fave djs out there:

Here's the link to Fashen's awesome White Light Mix - also done this summer.

And Saturday we have Mad Decent's latest signing Maluca coming through, I guess you could describe what's happening here as an "embarrassment of riches":

Here is a link to Sticky K's remix of Maluca's El Tigaraso.

So see you at one or all of these shows, unless you aren't into great music and having fun.

THIS IS NEAT

Turd On The Run

French photographer Dominique Tarlé took thousands of pictures of the Rolling Stones during the Exile On Main Street sessions in the South of France.

Here's what Mick Jagger said about the time:

"(We were) just winging it. Staying up all night...Stoned on something; one thing or another. So I don't think it was particularly pleasant. I didn't have a very good time. It was this communal thing where you don't know whether you're recording or living or having dinner; you don't know when you're gonna play, when you're gonna sing - very difficult. Too many hangers-on. I went with the flow, and the album got made. These things have a certain energy, and there's a certain flow to it, and it got impossible. Everyone was so out of it. And the engineers, the producers - all the people that were supposed to be organized - were more disorganized than anybody."

RUFF!

The last one got pulled by Youtube. Hopefully this one stays up. Also noteworthy, is the Dalmation:

I love life so much when I see shit like this.

Cover Art by Joni Mitchell

To be honest I still don't get Joni Mitchell. I know she's a great songwriter, and a proud prairie girl to boot, but it's the voice, the voice. Still sounds not good to me. Maybe one day I'll come round, like I did with Leonard Cohen.

She is however an amazing and underappreciated visual artist. Check out these album covers she did. So Far is the sickest!

Joni Mitchell

My Dad grew up in Pincher Creek in southern Alberta, when I was a kid he always told me about how great Joni Mitchell was and how she was born in a town near Pincher Creek called Fort Macleod. For someone from the east or west coast it's hard to understand how in the middle of nowhere this is:

As a kid I never understood how awesome she was. Now I do. Easily one of the best song writers of the 20th Century. And she's still killing tings today. Check out this awesome video of Help Me - MASSIVE CHOON!

Sports Names

Fall means sports. Sports mean being hungover on the couch, laughing at meathead announcers and funny athlete names. Let's take a moment to celebrate some of the better ones.

WAX ROMEO MIX...

Here's a mix I did earlier, for Shambhala. Every year, it's a mad scramble to get shit ready for that party, and finishing a mix is usually the last thing I get done. It wasn't my intention, but it appears as though is mostly older disco, with some new ones tossed in. Anyway, I hope you like it.

Buddyhead

Buddyhead's been going since 1997. I didn't even have email in 1997. It was a blog before blogs existed. That's 12 years - count em - of rock smut and bad taste, and it's as funny and on-point as ever. The Gossip section is one of the best zones on the internet.

Gotta Juice It Before You Goose It

Pete says the blog's slippin', I gotta start posting more. Okay, Dad! It's true though, this blog has been suffering more neglect than a rapper's offspring.

I'm tempted to say it's because of I'm so busy with work and all these other blogs I do. But really it's because I don't care about dance music. I told Pete that. He said, 'Good. Post other shit.'

Here's some sweet country tunes.
